The booking reality

70% of Australian pick-your-own farms require or recommend booking ahead, according to Pick Your Own Farms' 2026 survey of the 200 farms with a published booking policy — 99 require it and 41 recommend it. Pick-your-own is less spontaneous than most people assume: always check before you drive.

Family facilities

Of the 180 farms where we recorded it, 178 (99%) note kid-friendly facilities; of the 96 where we recorded it, 70 (73%) have a cafe on site.

Farm experiences beyond picking

345 farms offer a hands-on experience, across six categories — 258 of them offer experiences only, with no pick-your-own. Animal encounters and farm tours are the most common.

Method & limitations

These figures come from Pick Your Own Farms' directory, in which every farm carries a source URL and a verification date, and is re-checked on a rolling basis. The dataset is not exhaustive and some fields are incomplete — where a percentage is quoted we state the number of farms it is based on. Booking policies, prices and facilities change with the season, so treat the figures as a point-in-time survey, not a guarantee. Methodology

Every farm in this dataset was verified against at least one public source — its own website, its social media, or an independent listing such as a tourism board, press coverage or a review platform — before being added. 469 of the 597 listings (79%) carry two or more independent sources, and each record shows a last-verified date alongside links to the sources used.

Farms are re-checked on a rolling schedule. Any that can no longer be confirmed as operating are marked closed rather than deleted, so the historical record stays intact. Pick-your-own and farm experiences are counted as separate categories: a farm offering guided tours or animal encounters but no hands-on picking is counted under experiences, not pick-your-own, so the two are never combined in the totals above.

Every number on this page is recalculated from the directory each time the page is published, so this page and the listings it describes cannot disagree.
