Almost every farm that serves Canberra is in New South Wales, not the ACT. The Territory is small and mostly urban, so the picking, the plantations and the farm gates sit just over the border: Hall and Wallaroo to the north-west, Gundaroo and Sutton to the north, Bywong and Bungendore to the east, and Braidwood further out again.

The split is a practical one rather than a technicality: it keeps each farm on the state page a visitor would expect to find it on, and it lets us be straight about distance, because "near Canberra" covers everything from a 25-minute run out to Hall to an hour and a half east to Braidwood.

A few, and they are listed on the Canberra Region page. But the Territory is compact and largely urban, so most farm visits from Canberra mean crossing into New South Wales. For choose-and-cut Christmas trees specifically, there is no farm inside the ACT at all — every one is over the border.
It varies more than "near Canberra" suggests, which is why each listing carries its own distance. Hall and Wallaroo are roughly 25 minutes north-west. Gundaroo is about 40km north. Bywong is around 30 minutes north-east off the Federal Highway. Braidwood and Charleys Forest are an hour and a half east. Check the individual farm before you plan the day.
The tablelands are colder than the coast, which shifts things later and makes the district suit cool-climate crops. Christmas tree farms here run from late November to Christmas Eve, and the surrounding NSW districts add stone fruit and berries through summer. Seasons move with the weather every year, so ring the farm before you drive.
It depends on the farm and is listed on each one. Around Canberra most farms let you simply turn up during opening hours, with a few offering weekday visits by appointment. That is a genuine regional difference: Tasmanian farms, by contrast, have largely moved to booked sessions.
