Apple picking in NSW is dominated by the Bilpin district — the stretch of the Bells Line of Road about 80–90 minutes north-west of Sydney where the Blue Mountains' elevation creates the cooler conditions apples need. You can visit four or five apple orchards in a single day's drive along that road: Pine Crest Orchard (no entry fee, pay per kilo), TNT Produce (online booking required, broad fruit selection), Bilpin Botanic Orchard, Bilpin Fruit Bowl and Shields Orchard (free entry, pay per kilo). Bilpin Botanic recommends booking ahead as ripe fruit can sell out on a good weekend. Beyond Bilpin, Cedar Creek Orchard and Bilpin Springs Orchard in the Sydney Basin catchment also offer u-pick apple sessions, and the Central West around Orange adds Borrodell Estate Orchard and Hillside Harvest for those willing to make the 3–4 hour drive for an orchard weekend.

NSW apple season runs from February to May depending on variety, with peak picking typically through March and April. Unlike cherries (which run November to January) and stone fruits (November to February), apples are an autumn crop — so if you missed the summer picking window, apple season offers a second chance to visit Bilpin.
