This guide covers real pick-your-own farms within about 30 to 60 minutes of the Perth CBD, plus strawberry and mango growers a little further north around Wanneroo, Gnangara and Neerabup. Prices, seasons and booking details come from what each farm has published or told visitors directly, checked in July 2026 — several are small family operations that post opening weekends on Facebook rather than running a website, so treat the seasons below as a normal-year estimate. Perth Hills: apples, cherries and stone fruit (around 30-45 minutes)

The Perth Hills, up around Carmel, Pickering Brook and Walliston, is the closest real orchard country to the city and the most reliable option for a classic pick-your-own day out. Most of these farms sit within a few minutes of each other, so it's easy to pair two in one trip.

Carmel Cherry Farm and The Fruit Corner

Carmel Cherry Farm is the one to know for a short, sharp cherry season, running November to December alongside a longer loquat window and lychees in February. Sources disagree on price, so confirm current rates when you book — see the table above for both figures quoted. It's weekends only, bookings are essential, and places go through a Facebook waitlist rather than open sign-up, so get in early. A short drive away, The Fruit Corner at Pickering Brook is the broadest pick of the Hills farms, growing apples, cherries, plums, pears, oranges, mandarins and a patch of vegetables. Its apple season is the longest in this guide, running April to July, so if you're picking in April this is one of the more reliable options. No booking is required, which makes it an easy add-on to a Hills day trip.

Core Cider House and S&R Orchard

Core Cider House, also in Pickering Brook, picks apples and pears from January to May alongside plums, citrus and persimmons, pairing picking with cider tastings, orchard tours, tractor rides and meals at its Orchard Bistro — it's rated kid-friendly and has a cafe on site. Events are announced through the year via social media rather than a fixed roster, so booking ahead is worth doing. S&R Orchard at Walliston runs its picking as ticketed events instead of an everyday open gate: a Blossom Festival in September, when the trees flower rather than fruit, and a Summer Fruit Picking Festival from December through to March across nectarines, plums, peaches, pears and apricots. Booking ahead is recommended for both.

Tony's Summer Fruits and Weemala Orchard

Also at Carmel, Tony's Summer Fruits grows one of the widest stone fruit ranges in the Hills — plums, apricots, peaches, nectarines, apples, pears, persimmons and figs — open seven days a week through its December-to-April season, with farm stay accommodation if you want to make a weekend of it. Price and booking details aren't published, so call ahead. Just up the road, Weemala Orchard is a one-crop, one-weekend proposition: a short persimmon season opening for a limited window each autumn, typically early-to-mid June, announced on Facebook and Instagram rather than fixed on a calendar. Booking is essential, handled through a neighbouring farm's Calendly in one-hour slots, so this one takes more planning than a spontaneous drive-up.

Wanneroo and Gnangara: strawberries and mangoes north of the city (around 25-40 minutes)

North of Perth, a scattering of small family farms around Wanneroo, Gnangara and Neerabup grow strawberries through spring and into summer, with a mango grower nearby picking up once the berries finish.

H&N Strawberries at Gnangara has the longest strawberry season in this guide, September through to January, cash only, with no booking required — just be aware it can close early on a weekend if the patch sells out. At Neerabup, Minh Tran's Strawberry Farm runs a similar pattern from late August to December, open Saturday and Sunday mornings. Hoang Le's Strawberries at Wanneroo has the shortest window of the three, roughly October into early November. Once the strawberries finish, Perth Mango Farm nearby at Nowergup picks up with mangoes from February to April, open Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday depending on what's ripe.

Swan Valley: grapes, figs and winter citrus (around 25-40 minutes)

The Swan Valley's wine country doubles as pick-your-own grape and fig territory in late summer, and a couple of its farms switch to citrus once the cooler months arrive — useful once the Hills' apple and stone fruit season eases off.

Swan Street Vineyard and Kafarela's Vineyard

Swan Street Vineyard at Henley Brook opens its rows from late January through March, with free entry and a basket and clippers provided — bring your own bags or buy reusable cotton ones on site. The farm also grows figs over a similar summer-autumn window, though exact dates aren't confirmed, so it's worth calling ahead to check what's actually ripe. Nearby at Herne Hill, Kafarela's Vineyard picks grapes from December to March and figs from January to March, though price and booking details aren't published, so treat it as one to phone before visiting. Several more grape growers keep similar weekend hours nearby, all charging roughly $3-6 a kilogram in past seasons: Padbury Pickings at Herne Hill, Grapes on Swan and Grumpy Grapes Vineyard, and Swan Valley Fresh Fruit at Millendon, which also sells pre-picked mangoes and watermelon.

Swan Valley Sisters and The Orchard Perth

Swan Valley Sisters picks oranges, lemons and mandarins from July to September, then asparagus through spring and summer, and mangoes and figs again in February and March — a rare year-round spread on one property. Sessions run Saturday and Sunday mornings, booking is essential, and there's a produce cafe on site. Further out at Lower Chittering, The Orchard Perth grows around 10,000 citrus trees and keeps picking going for most of the year, with navel oranges peaking through winter and spring and mandarins from May to October. Picking here is bundled into a paid Orchard Tractor Ride and Fruit Picking Tour rather than a standalone pay-per-kilo gate — book ahead, as it doesn't run on a casual walk-in basis.

Worth knowing: the real orchard country is further south

Everything above works as a Perth day trip, but it's worth being upfront that none of it is Western Australia's main game — the state's biggest apple and stone fruit country sits around Donnybrook and Manjimup, roughly two and a half to three hours south of Perth. We haven't verified specific pick-your-own farms in that district for this guide, so none are named here. If you're planning a longer weekend rather than a half-day trip, it's worth knowing that country exists; for a straightforward day trip, Perth Hills and the Swan Valley above remain the realistic options.

What to bring and how to book

Booking habits vary across this list — structured operations like Carmel Cherry Farm, Weemala Orchard, Swan Valley Sisters and The Orchard Perth take bookings only, while easier-going farms like The Fruit Corner and H&N Strawberries let you just turn up. Check the farm's Facebook page before you drive out, since several are small operations that open around the weather and how much fruit is actually ripe.

• Cash — many of the smaller Hills and Swan Valley farms are cash-only, with patchy card reception this far from the city.
• Closed shoes — orchard rows and vineyard tracks are uneven and can be muddy after rain.
• A box or crate in the boot — grapes, figs and stone fruit bruise easily on the drive home.
• Sunscreen and a hat — there's little shade in an open orchard, whatever the season.
• Your own bags or a picking container where the farm doesn't provide one — Swan Street Vineyard is one that expects you to bring your own.
• A confirmed booking or the farm's phone number, since several of these properties sit on unsealed roads with patchy mobile signal.
