Three different things get called a tractor ride

The 29 listings on this page are not offering the same product, and the difference matters more than the price does. Before you drive anywhere, work out which of these three you are buying.

• A ride included in general entry. The tractor loops the paddock every so often and you hop on when you like. S&R Orchard at Walliston in the Perth Hills says every visit includes tractor rides and an animal-farm area, and Canoelands Orchard north of Sydney runs its tractor on weekends alongside animal feeding.
• A paid add-on to entry. You pay admission, then a few dollars more for the ride. Chesterfield Farm at Scoresby was charging $22 adult and $15 child entry with the tractor a $6 extra when we checked, and Eastcoast Beverages at Kulnura sold its 2026 orchard tractor tour at $10 per person on top of a $10 adult and $5 child event ticket.
• The ride is the experience. One ticket, one departure time, and if you miss it there is no second chance that day. Hawkes Farm at Boneo runs its ticketed Ride 'n' Pick as a roughly 45-minute tractor trip with a talk from Farmer Richard and a bag of carrots to harvest — $15 per person for the 2026 Easter tour, under twos free. Glenbernie Orchard at Darkes Forest runs its Orchard Explorer and blossom rides the same way, with bookings essential.

What to expect once you are on the trailer

Most of these rides are a farm trailer or wagon towed behind a working tractor — hay bales or bench seating, open sides, no seatbelts and no shade unless a canopy has been rigged. It is a paddock at walking pace, not a theme-park ride, and that is most of the charm.

A few practical things that catch people out:

• Getting on and off. Trailers usually sit high, with a step or a small ladder. Nobody in this listing set publishes a minimum age, but very small children are generally expected to sit on a lap, and prams have to be folded and left behind. Ring ahead if anyone in your group has limited mobility — access varies farm to farm and is rarely spelled out online.
• You will not hear everything. On the guided tours, the tractor is loud and the commentary drifts. If the interpretation is the reason you booked — as it is at Catania Fruit Salad Farm at Hanwood, where the personalised Farm Safari runs aboard a corrugated-iron-clad bus — sit near the front.

• Rides pause. Drivers take breaks, tractors get pulled away for actual farm work, and the last run of the day often goes earlier than closing time. Arriving in the first half of the session gives you the most chances.

Seasonally, the picture shifts. Blossom rides run in spring, harvest rides follow the crop, and several listings here are event-only — Ellia's Garden at Rosevale, for instance, runs hay rides on ticketed public farm days rather than continuously. Outside those dates the gate is shut, so check the farm's socials before you commit to the drive.
